Rock Your World in a Classical Way: Urban Quartet in Cottonwood October 16th

As one fan remarked, “Urban Quartet will rock your world in a classical way.”

Internationally acclaimed and based in Phoenix, Arizona, Urban Quartet will make its first Northern Arizona appearance at the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood on Friday, October 16th at 7:30 PM.  If you like classical music, if you like rock, pop, or jazz, tradition and innovation, you should plan on attending.

From street-side to concert halls and major music festivals, sports arenas, dance clubs and night clubs, the Urban Quartet is packing venues and emerging as one of the top progressive string quartets in the world. In its very young, three-year career, UQ has headlined, collaborated, recorded, and performed for over a hundred thousand fans.

The Urban Quartet is composed of Carrie Caruso on violin, Melanie Yarger on cello, Christian Simmelink on Violin and Matthew Gorgon on viola.  The four players came together with the common idea of exploring the expressive potential of modern music through the medium of the string quartet.  UQ stepped onto the music scene with an eye and ear for sophistication combined with bold, vivacious energy and the willingness to ‘play’ outside the box.

The group is highly sought after for its versatility in performing a very wide range of music from hard rock to alternative rock, pop, club music, cutting edge electronic music, jazz and original film music.  UQ brings to the stage an eclectic repertoire performing the best original works of groups such as Metallica, Paramore, Sting, U2, Violent Femmes, Cranberries, Eminem, Coldplay, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Outkast, the Beatles, INXS, Nirvana, Queen, Led Zepplin, and the Rolling Stones.

Nearly all of Urban Quartet’s music is written or arranged by UQ’s own Carrie Caruso and Matthew Gordon.  With over a hundred years of combined practice and performance, the Urban Quartet offers a diverse array of performance possibilities.
