ADOT SR 179 Construction Update: Week of Oct. 12

First Priority: SAFETY

Work Continues:

Oak Creek Bridge Lane Closures on Monday
The bridge girders for the last span of Phase I of the new bridge will be placed on Monday, October 12. Nine girders will arrive on trucks from Phoenix by way of Cottonwood on SR 89A early in the morning. Traffic on 89A will be diverted around the trucks as they wait to unload at the bridge.

There will be brief lane closures on the bridge between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. while the girders are removed from the trucks. Please expect up to 15-minute delays. Flaggers will direct traffic safely across the bridge. Tlaquepaque’s creek side (south) driveway will be closed, but access will remain open from the Secret Garden and Portal entrances.

Canyon Drive and Morgan Wash
Excavation for the wall footings for the uphill and downhill walls continues between Canyon Drive and Morgan Wash from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Night Work Near Hillside
Construction of the wall across from Hillside continues and minimal work needs to be done at night so traffic is not disrupted during the busier daytime hours.  All business access remains open.

Paving
Paving of the southbound lanes near Poco Diablo and north of Chapel Road will occur this week, which will complete the roadway section from Back O’Beyond to Morgan Road.

The southbound lane across from Exposures and in front of The Inn at Oak Creek also will be paved. Expect traffic delays in this area.

Streetlights Turned On
The streetlights will be activated this week at Chapel, Arrow and the Hillside area.

Project Success:  City of Sedona Sewer Work Complete on SR 179 in Project 2
The underground sewer is now complete on SR 179 throughout Project 2. The remaining utility work between Canyon and Morgan (cable, phone, power) are 95% complete.

ADOT and Southwest Asphalt Paving appreciate your continued cooperation as these improvements are made to SR 179.

adotlogoPlease note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment and personnel availability. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delawys, may not always be known in advance.
