On Tuesday, September 22, 2009, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC) gave a favorable review to the Arizona /State Parks’ request to backfill cuts previously made to its fiscal operating budget. With the Committee’s favorable review, the Parks Board suspended the freeze on Heritage Fund Grant monies that had been frozen in February 2009. “We are extremely happy to release funding for these very worthy trails, historic preservation, and park projects,” said Renée Bahl, Executive Director.
The Sedona International Film Festival in partnership with Sedona Arts Festival and generously supported by sponsors L’Auberge de Sedona and The Goldenstein Gallery as well as White Tie Transportation present an exciting week of events featuring the artistry of legendagy actor, legendary artist Tony Curtis.
Sedona, Az – Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, “Departures” makes its Sedona debut on Tuesday, Sept. 29th.
There will be two screenings of the film at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Harkins Sedona Six Theatres. The film is being presented by the Sedona International Film Festival in this one-night-only special engagement as part of its popular Tuesday Cinema Series.
• Work between Canyon Drive and Morgan Wash will be from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday with minor work on Saturday.
• Concrete pouring of the wall across from Hillside will continue this week. Minor traffic impacts are expected when the concrete trucks are in the area.
• Workers continue to prepare for pavement on the southbound lanes near Poco Diablo and north of Chapel Road. This will complete the roadway section from Back O’ Beyond to Morgan Road.
Beloved local musician, Suzie Schomaker, known for founding the Sedona Performers Guild and for her spirited Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and June Carter Cash renditions as part of the Heavenly J’s, will be performing a solo show at Studio Live for the first time this weekend. She will take to the stage Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 & 26th.
The Association of Village Artists will be opening their studios to the public and showing their latest works, as well as discussing and demonstrating their styles and techniques for the 6th Annual Fine Art & Craft Show & Sale held in the Village of Oak Creek. The event will begin with an artists reception Friday evening September 25th, from 6 to 8PM.
Verde River Days promotes preservation and care of the environment by showcasing informative exhibits on the Verde’s riparian habitat. Some of the day’s events include environmental exhibits, hands-on activities, fishing, canoeing and live entertainment. 40-plus nature-based exhibits, sandcastle building, a menagerie of live animals, non-stop activities from canoe rides (with or without assistance), to nature hikes, as well as continuous entertainment and local food vendors.
The entire Sedona community is invited to a free event on October 30, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. to Celebrate the Sedona Night Sky III, presented by Evening Sky Tours, LLC. This event is the third in the series of free community events to highlight the beauty of Sedona’s starry skies. No reservations are necessary. Families are welcome to bring a blanket and picnic and sit on the outfield grass of the upper field of the Posse Grounds baseball field.
The Chamber Music Sedona 2009-2010 Season will showcase superb artists from around the world. Artists vary in nationality and style, with programs varying from well-loved classics to challenging contemporary works. All share a high reputation for virtuosity and vitality.
The 2009-2010 Season opens with ATOS Trio performing Sunday, October 11 at 2:30 pm.
